Students at Townsend School recently took part in a Future Ready employment workshop, designed to help young carers recognise the valuable skills they develop through their caring responsibilities and how these strengths can support future education, training and career opportunities.

Through interactive activities and discussions, students reflected on the everyday challenges that build important life and employability skills, including resilience, empathy, communication, organisation, problem-solving and responsibility.

The workshop encouraged participants to recognise how these strengths are highly valued by employers and can support a wide range of future career pathways. Students were also supported to identify their personal strengths, helping to build confidence in their abilities and future potential.

Part of the Future Ready programme, the session aims to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress into education, employment and training. By helping young carers recognise the value of their experiences, the programme supports them to see their skills as a foundation for future success.

Recognising Everyday Strengths

A spokesperson for the programme said:

The workshop received positive feedback from students, many of whom left with a greater appreciation of their own abilities and a clearer understanding of how the skills they develop today can support successful and rewarding futures.
