What is the Six Point Promise?

For clubs, organisations and charities, volunteers are our lifeblood.  Recruiting and retaining them is key to delivering high quality activities and so investing in them is critical to achieving success. The 6 Point Promise is designed to help organisations, groups and sports clubs to recruit and retain their volunteers. Organisations across the county are asked to complete the online checklist to self-assess their current management of volunteers. Our aim is to raise standards of volunteer management – we all know how vital volunteers are to our organisations, but sometimes we don’t give their management the time it deserves.

Organisations who have completed the 6 Point Promise appreciate the benefits of:

  • recognition by potential funders as taking volunteer management seriously.
  • eligibility for nomination for the Herts Valuing Volunteer Management and Lees Awards.
  • acknowledgement by volunteers that the organisation really cares about its people.
  • better recruitment and retention of volunteers.
  • increased community profile – on the Volunteering Herts CIC website.
  • access to further support from the Volunteer Centre.

To begin the 6 Point Promise process, please contact loretta@communityactiondacorum.org.uk who will be able to get you started.

Working through a checklist of simple statements about basic volunteer management you will be able to decide whether the way you treat volunteers fits the bill or maybe needs a bit of attention. We can help with any questions you may have and offer template documents which you can adopt and adapt to suit your organisation.
