We provide courses for adults in Dacorum and other locations around Hertfordshire. Subjects include English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), Skills for Employment, Digital Skills including AI and Excel, Family Learning e.g. Making Maths Fun, Reduce, Re-use and Recycle, Family Finance and Budgeting .. and much more!

Training and Development

Education is a lifelong process, studies show that participating in lifelong learning is one way to improve our health and keep well. Keeping our minds and bodies active makes lives more fulfilling and keeps us healthy. At Community Action Dacorum our training crosses all three areas of focus; Communities | Employability | Wellbeing as well as supporting our work with the trading company HITS. 

COURSE DETAILS

Below is a list of our current FREE courses which have been funded by The Education and Skills Funding Agency for adults who make the following criteria:

  • A Hertfordshire resident
  • Aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2024
  • UK National and lived in the UK for the last 3 years or EEA National with settled/pre-settled status and lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years

AI in the Workplace

This course will help you improve your confidence, improve your IT skills and move into employment.  This 5 week course will help learners:
*  Explore AI’s history and evolution
*  Discover AI’s benefits and challenges
*  Learn about voice assistants and smart devices  

Dates:  5th June,  12th June,  19th June,  26th June, 3rd July
Time:  10am to 12pm
Venue:  The South Hill Centre, Cemetery Hill, Hemel Hempstead HP1 1JF
Introduction to Adult Social Care  

Are you interested in a career in supporting adults in social care but don’t know where to start?  This 4 week course will equip learners with:
*  A clear understanding of the role of an adult social care worker
*  Various employment opportunities within the sector
*  Essential knowledge of safeguarding principals
*  The importance of recognising ad reporting concerns to ensure the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable adults

You will be working towards your care certificate!

Introduction to Childcare  

Are you interested in a career with children?  This course will help you build confidence in caring for children, understanding their development and creating a supportive and nurturing environment. This course will provide learners with:  
*  A comprehensive understanding of the role of a childcare worker
*  Various employment opportunities in the field
*  Gaining essential knowledge of safeguarding principals
*  Learning the importance of reporting concerns to ensure the safety and well-being of children

Stepping Back Into Work

Are you currently unemployed and would like to improve your skills and confidence when looking for work? This 4 week course will help you with:
*  Interview techniques
*  CV Writing
*  Building confidence
*  Website searching

Dates:  2nd June,  9th June,  16th June,  23rd June
Time:  10.30am to 1.00pm
Venue:  St Mary’s Hall, High Street, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 3AF
Understanding Warehousing  

This 4 part beginners course will help you improve your confidence, numeracy and see the workings of a warehouse for yourself.

Introduction to Volunteering  

Are you having trouble getting into employment and would like to improve your employability potential? Or perhaps you are already in employment but would like to develop and learn new skills to help you progress through your career. Or maybe you are coming to the end of your employment journey but would like your retirement to be purposeful and add value.   Our Introduction to Volunteering course will help you take your first steps into volunteering.  This course will introduce you to:
