Help with Mobility / Wellbeing Support
ShopMobility
Shopmobility gives people with a temporary or permanent mobility problem the chance to get out and about independently in Hemel Hempstead town centre.
The service is open between 10am and 4pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday each week.

What can be hired?
- Electric wheelchairs & electric scooters are hired out for a small charge.
- Manual wheelchairs are also available for long term hire.
Using the service
First-time users are asked to complete a simple registration form and provide some proof of identity showing name and address – a driving licence, utility bill or similar. A member of staff or a volunteer will choose the most appropriate vehicle and provide training before it’s taken out.
Shopmobility is supported by Dacorum Borough Council and managed by Community Action Dacorum for the people of Dacorum.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle car for hire
Community Transport can support you through our Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) hire which enables wheelchair users to travel without transferring.
Who can use the service?
Anyone who is dependent on a wheelchair and cannot transfer to use cars, taxis or public transport.
Who can drive the vehicle?
Friends, relatives or carers may drive the vehicle as long as they are over the age of 21, subject to completing our simple registration process. They must also receive training on using the equipment prior to the first booking. Alternatively you can hire the vehicle with a Community Transport volunteer driver.
What sort of journeys can be taken?
The service can be used for:
- Hospital or Doctor appointments
- Healthcare appointments
- Day Centres and Specialist Needs Clubs
- Social purposes
- Shopping
What does it cost?
A realistic charge, based on journey miles, will be agreed with the client at the time of booking. There is a minimum charge of £7.00. For self drive requests the charge will include the following additional fees:
- £10 annual individual membership fee
- £20 per booking admin fee

Community Cars
Community Cars solves transport problems for less able people in Dacorum. Our team of volunteers use their own cars in their free time to drive passengers to their destinations.
Who are our clients?
Anyone who can’t use public transport due to mobility or medical reasons, either permanent or temporary.
All journeys will be considered, including:
- Hospital, doctor or dental appointments
- Visits to sick friends or relatives
- Day centres and clubs
- Community centres, libraries, hairdressers, etc
How much does it cost?
Transport is charged at 65p per mile with a minimum charge for a journey of £5.
How to book
The community cars office is open 5 days a week, Monday to Friday 9am – 3pm.
