Kings Langley Welcomes It’s New Repair Shed: A Hub for Skills and Community

December 11, 2025

Community Action Dacorum’s Repair Sheds Project is celebrating an exciting expansion with the imminent opening of a brand-new, fourth Repair Shed location in Kings Langley. This new venture will be housed at the Rudolf Steiner School site and provides a welcoming workshop community for local residents.

The Repair Shed initiative, founded in 2015, focuses on Community, Employability, and Wellbeing. Its primary goal is to combat social isolation and loneliness, particularly for people over 50, by offering a creative, hands-on space for woodworking and DIY. The sheds promote mental health and well-being, allowing members—known as ‘Shedders’—to find a renewed sense of purpose, camaraderie, and relaxation through crafting and connection. The overall project is one arm of the local charity, Community Action Dacorum, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation across the borough.

The Kings Langley shed will serve as a supportive environment where people can meet, socialise, and work “shoulder to shoulder” on practical projects. Shedders can learn new skills, share their own expertise, and work on community projects alongside personal items. Members often engage in making things like hedgehog houses, bird boxes, and garden shelves, frequently restoring and repurposing old items and using reused timber to keep materials out of landfill.

Community Action Dacorum is currently inviting new members, especially those retired or semi-retired, or who simply enjoy making and mending, to join this exciting new facility and help shape its future.

Furthermore, the new workshop requires a dedicated Workshop Team Leader. This role is essential for running the machinery safely and effectively, guiding members, and potentially growing to include running woodworking classes and community sessions in the future, thus keeping traditional skills alive.

To join as a new member or to enquire about the Team Leader opportunity, individuals are encouraged to contact Tony Mackinder, the Repair Sheds Officer 01442 25390 or via email at tony@communityactiondacorum.org.uk
