Welcome to the Repair Shed which is part of a wider international movement developing Sheds as a vehicle for connecting older men to like-minded people and the wider community, through rewarding, often physical, activity.

Our SHED is one of over 10 projects managed through Community Action Dacorum (CAD). It is a run BY volunteers FOR volunteers; CAD provides advice and guidance on such things as policies and procedures and funding but it is up to the volunteers themselves to manage the direction and activities performed within the project. CAD also provide the legal infrastructure to enable the project to exist (e.g. public liability insurance)

We also receive advice and support by being a member of the UK Mens Sheds Association www.menssheds.org.uk

Whist we call our Shed The REPAIR Shed, we do much more than just “repair”. We MAKE, MEND and LEARN which are the three key activities of any SHED.

Our vision is:

•To be an environmental social enterprise that is financially self-sustaining by making, mending and selling products and services as appropriate.

•To provide a supportive environment in which older men (50+) who are practically-minded and want to make things, do repairs, share skills and learn new ones.

•To  spend approximately 1/3 of our time on income generation through making items for sale and mending items that would otherwise go to landfill; 1/3 of our time on community projects (paid and unpaid) 1/3 on member’s own personal projects.

•To create a project that is member led and helps  members make new friends and contacts, support and encourage each other but do not feel under pressure ………and above all have fun!

A visit to 'Men in Sheds' at Milton Keynes was a great trip out this week, attended by most of our members. It was certainly very interesting to see a different Shed in operation. What an amazing space they have to carry out all their activities. Very thought provoking and gave us some ideas of how we might do some things differently. You can see from the many photos below of what sort of things they get up to!

And an enjoyable pub lunch afterwards subsidised by our tea and coffee subs!

Thanks to All at the Milton Keynes 'Men in Sheds' for your great hospitality!
