The world of tomorrow requires more and more information and communication skills; but 44% of Europeans between 16 and 74 years old do not have basic digital skills. In addition, 2018 is the European Year of Heritage and it's main aim is to spread awareness of European culture and to increase the sense of belonging to a common space.
My Community 2020 is a new project that aims to combine both of those themes, by engaging adults with low digital skills to create local history of tomorrow, by recording films or audios stories.
Through collaboration, seven partners will create a training course called “Digital Skills to Create Local History” with modules covering storytelling, local history, interview skills, local media awareness and digital skills to record and edit video & audio files using free software. Ten adults recruited from seven countries will pilot this course.
In total, 70 adults will participate in the courses to increase their digital skills, employability skills, communication skills, self confidence and awareness of cultural heritage. This will hopefully help them to become more active citizens and combat any social inclusion barriers.
14 adult learners will participate in an adult blended mobility to share personal journey, evaluate the project, design transitional participant-led messages and be involved in the Ireland Multiplier Event, The European Capital of Culture.
The main aim is to create 105 short (two minutes) stories that will be either their own stories or interviews with people within thier community. They will be in english and other local languages and will be published on the project webpage.
Out of the course, My Community 2020 Handbook will be created. The handbook created will help people from different locations learn the same skills and tell their own stories therefore creating a Europe-wide storybook of everyday life citizens.
Each of the partner will organise an dissemination event in their local area. The aim is to gather at least 260 participants per event and familiarise them with the concept of combining digital training and local history can creativity be used to make time capsule of life in 2020.
