Community Action Dacorum is proud to be partner of the ‘Building Better Opportunities’ programme funded jointly by The Big Lottery with match funding from the European Social Fund. It aims to tackle the root causes of poverty and unemployment, such as physical and mental health issues, homelessness, addiction and much more. It brings together public, private and voluntary organisations to create one of the biggest partnerships in the county
The three strands of the programme are STRIVE in Hertfordshire (Barriers to Employment); MILE in Hertfordshire (Financial Confidence) and Herts Youth Futures (Young People).
If you would like to take part you will receive dedicated one-to-one support from your local mentor. They will guide you through the many learning and skills opportunities available through this project helping you move towards gaining work experience placements, volunteering opportunities or apprenticeships, employment and self-employment.

The Big Lottery Fund and ESF have granted Hertfordshire County Council £5.5 million to help boost skills for residents. The project is part of the 'Building Better Opportunities' programme funded jointly by The Big Lottery with match funding from the European Social Fund. It aims to tackle the root causes of poverty and unemployment, such as physical and mental health issues, homelessness, addiction and much more.
Community Action Dacorum is a well-established active charity working across Hertfordshire and with some services geographically beyond.
Included within our range of provision are three Building Better Opportunities projects, which are led by Hertfordshire County Council and have in total 26 voluntary sector partners.
Within the Building Better Opportunities projects, CAD has two roles; supporting the County Council in the central management of the project and the delivery of front-line mentoring support to adults facing barriers to employment.
The Project Officer post will support the reporting CAD provides monthly to the County Council and liaise with all partners to ensure they report on project
dissemination and their obligations within the equality action plan,
provide secretariat to the Project Steering Group and undertake
other similar co-ordinating activities.
